Project Description

Kingston Lacy, Wimborne – Heritage Scaffolding for National Trust

High-Tek Scaffolding has had the pleasure of working at Kingston Lacy on multiple occasions. For this project, we provided access scaffolding to all windows and dormers of the magnificent National Trust country house. As a result, decorating works could take place safely across the entire property. Working on a Grade I listed heritage building demands sensitivity, technical skill and a deep respect for the historic fabric.

About the Project

Kingston Lacy is one of the National Trust’s most treasured properties. This 17th-century country house sits near Wimborne in Dorset, within an estate of 8,500 acres. Furthermore, the house contains one of the finest private art collections in the country.

Scaffolding a building of this age and status calls for careful planning and specialist methods. In addition, the work must fully comply with Historic England guidance. Every stage of the project aimed to protect the historic fabric of the building.

Project Scope and Approach

Our team designed and installed a full independent scaffolding system around the exterior of Kingston Lacy House. The scaffold provided safe access to all elevations, including window reveals, dormers and decorative stonework at height.

Heritage buildings require careful scaffold design to avoid damage to delicate features. Therefore, we used specialist protective materials at every contact point with historic masonry and stonework. We also planned the erection and dismantle phases in detail to minimise disruption to the property and its visitors.

Key Details

The project included several important elements. First, we erected a full independent scaffold around all elevations of Kingston Lacy House. Second, we ensured safe access to windows, dormers and decorative stonework at height. Third, our team carried out careful phasing of the erection and dismantle stages.

In addition, we used protective materials at all points where the scaffold made contact with historic masonry. We inspected the scaffold weekly and documented everything in full compliance with BS EN 12811. Consequently, all works met the strict requirements of the National Trust and Historic England.
