Project Description
Heathlands Academy – 900m² Temporary Roof Scaffolding
High-Tek Scaffolding completed a significant temporary roof scaffold project at Heathlands Academy. The structure covered approximately 900 square metres of roof area, making it a genuine achievement in terms of scale and technical complexity. As a result, the entire existing roof could be stripped and replaced while roofing contractors worked within a fully weatherproof environment.
About the Project
Heathlands Academy required a complete roof replacement across an area of some 900m². Because of the scale involved, a full temporary roof encapsulation structure was essential. This ensured the school building remained watertight and protected from the elements throughout the strip-out and re-roofing programme.
In addition, High-Tek Scaffolding worked closely with the contractor and the school to minimise disruption to the educational environment. Therefore, careful planning went into every stage of the project.
Scope of Works
The project involved several key elements. First, the team designed and erected a full temporary roof structure spanning approximately 900m². Second, they installed an independent access scaffold to all elevations of the building.
Furthermore, the team built loading bays and materials handling platforms for the roofing contractor. They also installed edge protection and containment netting around the full perimeter of the scaffold. The phasing of erection and dismantle was carefully planned to avoid disrupting school activities. Finally, the team carried out a safe, controlled dismantle on completion of all roof works.
Health and Safety
Working on a school site with a temporary roof structure of this scale required a meticulous approach to health and safety. The team prepared full RAMS, which were approved and reviewed regularly throughout the project. All operatives held current CISRS scaffolding qualifications.
Moreover, every High-Tek operative completed a school site induction before accessing the site. Strict exclusion zones protected pupils and staff at all times during working hours. The scaffold and temporary roof structure were inspected regularly and documented throughout. Consequently, all works were carried out in full compliance with BS EN 12811 and TG20:21 guidance.
