About the Project

The Commercial Road project involved building additional residential accommodation at roof level. To make this possible, a temporary roof structure protected the building and its occupants below while construction took place above.

In addition, the main road location added significant complexity to the works. As a result, the project required robust pedestrian protection and close liaison with the local authority at every stage.

Scope of Works

The team delivered a comprehensive package of scaffolding services for this project. First, they erected a temporary roof structure over the existing building to allow safe roof-raising works. Second, they installed a full independent access scaffold to all elevations of the property.

Furthermore, the team built a covered pedestrian walkway with protective fans along the public footpath. They also installed edge protection and safety netting to all open areas at height. Finally, they carefully phased the erection and dismantle stages to keep disruption to a minimum on this busy high street.

Health and Safety

Safety was central to every aspect of this project. The team prepared full RAMS, which were submitted and approved by all relevant parties before works began. All operatives held current CISRS scaffolding qualifications.

In addition, pedestrian management remained in place continuously throughout the project. The covered walkway and fans protected the public below at all times. The scaffold was inspected weekly and documented in compliance with BS EN 12811. Consequently, the project was delivered safely on a busy high street with zero incidents.
