Project Description
Halfords, Dorchester – Emergency Scaffold Tower for Roof Leak Repair
High-Tek Scaffolding were called out at short notice to erect an independent scaffold tower at the Halfords store in Dorchester after a significant roof leak was discovered, with water actively entering the shop floor. Given the urgency of the situation — with stock and fixtures at risk of water damage — our team mobilised quickly to provide safe, immediate access to the affected area of the roof so that repairs could be carried out without delay.
About the Project
Halfords in Dorchester is a busy retail unit located on the town’s retail park. When a roof leak was identified with water actively coming through the ceiling, the store required an urgent scaffolding solution. Roofers needed safe access to locate and repair the source of the leak quickly.
Because the store remained open with customers on site, speed and safety were equally critical. As a result, High-Tek Scaffolding responded promptly. The team designed and erected an independent scaffold tower that provided secure roof-level access without disrupting the store’s operations.
Scope of Works
The project required a rapid but carefully planned response. First, the team erected an independent scaffold tower to provide safe access to the roof area above the leak. Second, they designed the tower as a freestanding structure to avoid any fixings to the building.
In addition, the team installed edge protection and a safe working platform at roof level for the roofing contractor. They completed the erection within a rapid timeframe to allow emergency repairs to begin immediately. The scaffold was maintained and inspected throughout the hire period. Finally, the team dismantled the tower promptly once all repairs were complete.
Health and Safety
Even in an emergency situation, health and safety standards remained paramount. The team prepared RAMS and had them approved before works began. All operatives held current CISRS scaffolding cards.
Furthermore, the store continued to trade during the works, so customer safety was essential. The team maintained safe exclusion zones around the base of the tower during erection and dismantle. Regular scaffold inspections were carried out and documented throughout. Consequently, all scaffolding was erected in full compliance with BS EN 12811 and TG20:21 guidance.
