Project Description
Honeycombe Beach, Boscombe – Fire Safety Access Scaffolding
High-Tek Scaffolding provided a full external scaffold to the residential block of flats at Honeycombe Beach in Boscombe. The scaffold gave contractors safe access for essential fire safety remediation works. This type of project is increasingly common following changes in legislation. It requires a scaffold solution that balances speed, safety and minimal disruption to residents.
About the Project
The Honeycombe Beach development is a prominent residential block on the Boscombe seafront. Following the introduction of stricter fire safety requirements for multi-storey residential buildings, the block required external works to bring it into compliance.
As a result, High-Tek Scaffolding designed and erected a full external access scaffold to all elevations. This enabled the fire safety contractor to complete the programme safely and efficiently.
Scope of Works
The project included several important elements. First, the team erected a full external access scaffold to all elevations of the Honeycombe Beach residential block. Second, they installed working platforms at every level to support the fire safety remediation works.
In addition, the team fitted debris netting and toe boards to protect residents and the public below. They also installed pavement protection and fans for resident and pedestrian safety. The scaffold was modified and adapted as the fire safety works progressed through each elevation. Finally, the team carried out a full dismantle on completion of all external works.
Health and Safety
Scaffolding on an occupied residential building in a seafront location required particular attention to public and resident safety. The team submitted full RAMS, which were approved before works began on site. All operatives held current CISRS scaffolding qualifications.
Moreover, resident communication was coordinated with building management before and during the works. Public access routes and resident building access were maintained and protected at all times. The scaffold was inspected weekly and after adverse weather in line with BS EN 12811 requirements. Consequently, all works were carried out in full compliance with CDM 2015 regulations.
