Poole Hospital – Solar Panel Scaffold Access
High-Tek Scaffolding delivered a comprehensive scaffold solution at Poole Hospital. The project supported essential solar panel installation works across the hospital roof. Working within a live NHS hospital environment demands the very highest standards of planning, health and safety management, and operational sensitivity.
About the Project
Poole Hospital is one of the busiest NHS hospitals in the South of England. It serves a large catchment area across Dorset and Hampshire. The installation of solar panels across the hospital roof formed part of a wider energy efficiency programme.
As a result, High-Tek Scaffolding designed and erected a bespoke roof access scaffold. This enabled the solar installation team to work safely and efficiently. Furthermore, the scaffold design ensured no disruption to the hospital’s critical operations.
Scope of Works
The project included several important elements. First, the team designed and erected a bespoke roof access scaffold across the Poole Hospital roof areas. Second, they installed working platforms and edge protection to allow safe installation of solar panels at roof level.
In addition, the team created loading bays and materials handling areas for the solar panel equipment. They coordinated all erection and dismantle works closely with the hospital estates team. The scaffold was designed to avoid disrupting emergency access routes and clinical areas. Finally, the team carried out phased erection and dismantle to match the solar installation programme.
Health and Safety
Scaffolding within a live NHS hospital environment required an exceptional approach to health and safety. The team submitted full RAMS, which were reviewed and approved by the hospital estates team before works began. All operatives held current CISRS scaffolding qualifications and DBS clearance where required.
Moreover, every High-Tek operative completed a hospital site induction before accessing the site. The team implemented noise, vibration and dust controls to protect patients and clinical areas. The scaffold was inspected weekly and documented in full compliance with BS EN 12811. Consequently, zero incidents were recorded and the project was completed safely, on time and without disruption to hospital operations.
